Routine & Schedule

, by

Working from home has its ups and downs. There are many distractions and if you don’t get yourself into a routine ASAP you will find yourself being sucked into the black hole of “never getting anything done”. Routine is key. Get a schedule set up. Get up, get your coffee, do some stretches and then get to it:

  • Check emails
  • Check your Calendar
  • Message a coworker and say good morning (helps you feel connected)
  • Check your work platforms, get updated on the situation for the day
  • Get to it ( I always pick a few small projects to start the day. Projects I can wrap quickly and get out the door so I feel accomplished (even if it’s small). It helps fuel the fire for the rest of the day. )

Your routine shouldn’t just be about work, your day should be infused with breaks. Don’t forget you need to eat. I can’t tell you how many times I let the morning go by (when I’m not in my regular routine) and I have forgotten to eat breakfast. Eat breakfast, take a break for lunch, get some exercise throughout the day.

  • Go for a walk
  • Go to the gym
  • Take your dog for a walk
  • Climb a rock wall

Of course, not all days are created equal, and some days your routine might get thrown in the air … but sticking to it as much as you can will turn into a good habit that’s hard to break!

(Oh, and don't forget to shower)
